What a great party
IT’S party time . . . and among the children having a great time last night at The Bolton News Kidzone Christmas party were a group of very special youngsters.
They were the children of hit-and-run victim, Gorden Kay, who were given the star treatment when a luxury limousine took them to the party in style.
A chauffeur pulled up outside their Kearsley home and took them on an hour-long trip around town before arriving at the Reebok Stadium, where Mr Kay’s five youngest children were guests of honour at the party.
They were: Jessica, aged nine; Liam, aged seven; Amy, aged five; Megan, aged three; and Adam, aged 18 months. They got the chance to meet Father Christmas and each was presented with a special gift.
The special evening was organised by The Bolton News as a way of bringing a little happiness to the youngsters, who have been struggling to cope with the death of their father.
His wife Shirley is pregnant with the couple’s sixth child.
Mr Kay also has two other children, Johnathon, aged 13, and Shannon, aged 11, from a previous relationship.
Mr Kay, aged 34, of Grosvenor Street, Kearsley, was cycling to work at 6am on October 30 when he was hit by a vehicle in Manchester Road at Moses Gate, by the junction with St Peter’s Way.
| Adam, aged 18 months, Megan, aged three, Amy, aged five, Liam, aged seven, Abbie O’Brien, the nine-year-old little sister of the children’s mother, and Jessica, also aged nine. |
The driver did not stop and has still not been traced. Mr Kay was found dying at the side of the road by a passing motorist and lost his fight for life at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
Last night, the five children, along with Abbie O’Brien, their mother’s little sister, were collected by a top-of-the-range limo Hummer - which boasts a mirrored ceiling, LCD TVs and flashing lights - before being taken to the Kidzone party.
Kevin Hinds, managing director of Lancashire-based Jet Set Limousines, who provided the limo, said: “If we put a smile on their faces, even for an hour, the journey will have been worth it.
“The Hummer is a monster and we hope they had a fantastic time.”
Jessica said: “My teacher said it is not fair that I am going in a limo because she has never been in one. It was really good, we all loved it.”
Liam, added: “I really liked the limo - I loved everything about it.”
Mrs Kay said: “They have all been really excited about this. It was a real treat for them.”
